⚠️ Draft — Not Yet Legally Reviewed
This page is a working draft covering what our Privacy Policy needs to address. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and should not be treated as final. It will be replaced with reviewed language before it governs any paid membership or data collection.
💳 A note on money
WeThePeople may charge membership fees in the future. As of today, we are not collecting or exchanging money with any member for any task, service, or activity related to this website. If someone claiming to represent WeThePeople asks you for money outside of an official, published membership payment on this site, please do not pay them. We are not responsible for any transaction with individuals or entities falsely claiming association with WeThePeople.

Whether you consented to data processing (required to register) and whether you opted in to receive updates, event invites, and community news by email or WhatsApp (optional).

-
To review and process your membership application
We use the information you submit to evaluate your application, assign your membership tier (Visa, Ambassador, or Passport), and set up your profile.
-
To operate the member directory
Where you’ve been approved as a member, relevant profile information is used to populate our password-protected member directory, visible only to other logged-in members, not the public.
-
To communicate with you
We use your email and mobile number to send essential communications about your membership. If you opted in to marketing communications, we also send updates, event invites, and community news by email or WhatsApp. You can withdraw this consent at any time.
-
To improve the community over time
Aggregated, non-identifying information (such as the general professional or educational makeup of our members) may help us understand and grow the community. We do not sell or publish individual member data for this purpose.
-
Where your data is stored
Registration data is collected through our form provider (Tally) and stored in our member database (Baserow), both of which host data in Europe. This means your data is transferred outside India as part of our normal operations. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 permits transfer of personal data to countries outside India except where the Central Government has specifically restricted transfer to that country; no such restriction currently applies to the European Economic Area.
-
How long we keep it
We retain your data for as long as you’re a member. After you cease to be a member, whether by leaving or by removal, we retain your data in a protected environment for up to 12 months, after which it is deleted. You can request earlier deletion at any time, see the section below on your rights.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone, for any reason. We share data only in the following limited ways.
-
Service providers who help us run WeThePeople
Tally (our form provider) and Baserow (our member database) process your data on our behalf so we can run registration and the member directory. We choose providers who are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the purpose we’ve engaged them for.
-
Other members, through the directory
If you’re approved as a member, relevant parts of your profile become visible in our member directory, which is password-protected rather than tied to individual member logins. This means a member who has the password could share it with someone else, or share a direct link to the directory, and we cannot fully control that once shared. Please only share directory access with people you trust, and let us know if you believe access has been shared inappropriately.
-
WhatsApp, one-to-one only
WeThePeople does not run or maintain any WhatsApp group or community. If you consent to marketing communications, we may send you updates via individual, one-to-one WhatsApp messages only. Members are free to independently create their own WhatsApp groups to connect with each other; those groups are not created, managed, or monitored by WeThePeople, and we are not responsible for what is shared within them.
-
Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose data where required by law, to comply with a legal process, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of WeThePeople, our members, or the public.
-
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent, or license your personal data to advertisers, recruiters, or any third party. We do not share your data with anyone claiming to represent WeThePeople outside of the official channels described on this page, consistent with the note on money in the section above.
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the following rights over your personal data.
-
Right to access
You can ask us to confirm what personal data we hold about you and request a copy of it.
-
Right to correction and update
You can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data, or update it to reflect your current details.
-
Right to erasure
You can ask us to delete your personal data. We will delete it unless we’re required to retain it for a legal or legitimate business reason, in which case we’ll tell you why.
-
Right to withdraw consent
You can withdraw your consent to marketing communications at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of anything we did with your data before you withdrew it.
-
Right to grievance redressal
WeThePeople is currently run and maintained personally, so any concerns about how your data has been handled are dealt with directly by the person running WeThePeople, rather than through a separate grievance officer. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data or responded to a request, contact us using the details below.
-
How to exercise these rights
Email us at WeThePeople@PMnex.us with your request. We will respond within 30 days.
Questions about your data? 💬
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, want to exercise any of your rights, or have a concern about how your data has been handled, reach out directly.
We will respond within 30 days.
This policy may be updated from time to time as WeThePeople grows. We will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page whenever we do, and significant changes will be communicated to members directly.
